Obituary for Barbara Maria Brown
Barbara Maria (Williams) Brown of Hollis, NH, beloved wife of Dewi Richards Brown, M.D., passed away peacefully on December 29, 2022, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She was born in Pentre, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales on March 23, 1934, to John “Jack” Ellis and Francesca (Rabaiotti) Williams.
Barbara and Dewi met as students in London, where they wed in April 1959 at Brompton Oratory. They remained devoted to each other through the following 63 years of marriage.
Barbara took great pride in raising her family, first in London, then in Wales, and from 1970 in the Nashua and Hollis area. In addition to keeping a warm and loving home, Barbara enjoyed cooking, reading, travel, and the beautiful scenery of New England. She was a keen follower of professional tennis and fondly remembered the days of the former Volvo International tennis tournament in NH and VT. In later years, Barbara and Dewi revisited – often with friends – their favorite destinations of Italy, Portugal, London, and their home country of Wales.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents and by her dear brother, Aldo Samuel John “John” Williams.
Besides her husband, Barbara is survived by her children (Nicholas Brown and his wife Karen, Caroline Brown and her husband Tom Graham, Simon Brown and his wife Kathleen, and Jason Brown), her grandchildren (Justin Brown, Lucas Graham Brown, Matthew Graham Brown, Dylan Brown, Tess Brown, and Finn Brown), and her extended family in the United Kingdom.
SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, January 6 at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 777 W. Hollis Street, Nashua, NH, 03062 at 11:00 a.m. Those who wish to make a memorial donation in Barbara's name may do so to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
