Obituary for Barbara Ann Hoyt Hanlon

Barbara Ann Hoyt Hanlon, 93, of Londonderry, NH, formerly of Hudson, NH, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, February 28, 2021.

Barbara was born in Newton, MA, on May 19, 1927, the daughter of George L. and Edna H. (Ehrcke) Reynolds.

Barbara spent most of her childhood summers digging for clams and racing the incoming tide as it rolled in over the sand bars in Brewster on Cape Cod. At the age of 20 she met and married Robert T. Hoyt of Wellesley, MA. and together raised four children, David R. (Sherry) Hoyt, Stephen R. (Jean) Hoyt, Deborah Hoyt and Kimberly E. (Michael) Gagnon.

Barbara was widowed in midlife, then she met and married Arthur R. Hanlon of Pelham, NH. Together they moved to Londonderry where they enjoyed 33 years together caring for one another, sharing their families, and living full and long lives well into their 90’s.

Barbara had an infectious smile and twinkling eyes that were her trademark as one of the kindest, most caring persons you’d ever meet. Barbara was a loyal friend who loved to play bridge with her neighbors, laugh and just enjoy the moment. Barbara made friends with the grocery clerk, the hairdresser, the butcher, and waitresses at their favorite eateries. She knew their names and they knew hers.

Barbara loved to write poetry and short stories about her childhood, the nature around her and the thoughts that came to mind. She questioned the things that puzzled her and accepted what life had to bring. “A firefly lights his lantern/Brightens his corner space / Children holding jars/ Capture their mystery of life.”

Barbara is predeceased by her husbands, “Bob” and “Art” and her son, Stephen. She is survived by her remaining children and their spouses, her stepchildren, A. Richard (Mark) Hanlon, Kevin (Darlene) Hanlon, Melanie (Richard) Taylor and all of the above’s grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
