Obituary for Betty Mae Stone (Campbell)

Betty Mae (Campbell) Stone, 89, of Nashua, NH passed from this life peacefully on Monday April 26, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born in Auburn, ME on May 24, 1931, the loving daughter of the late Thelma (Pitman) Campbell and Cecil Campbell. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Roger “Chick” Gardiner Stone.
Betty was educated in the public schools of Auburn, ME. Both she and her husband graduated from Edward Little High School Class of 1949, where she was a proud member of the ELHS Marching Band playing the clarinet. After graduation Betty worked at Clark’s Drugstore until she married Chick in 1953. Following their marriage, they relocated to Norwich, CT then Carlisle, MA.
Prior to retiring and living in Nashua, NH for 34 years, she had lived in Carlisle, MA for 24 years where she was a stay-at-home Mom. Betty enjoyed raising her family and serving the community. Whether working or volunteering her time; she was very involved in her local church, was a Cub Scout Leader, and was also employed in the Carlisle School cafeteria. For 22 years she was employed with DeFelice Brothers Corp and Concord Ice House as an Office Manager and Bookkeeper in their Bedford and Concord, MA offices.
In retirement, Betty and Chick enjoyed traveling the U.S. and spending time with family and friends. Betty loved gathering with her children and grandchildren for get-togethers and holidays as they were her most precious loved ones. She enjoyed baking, sewing, cross-stitch, and crossword puzzles. Betty will never be forgotten for all the wonderful cards and notes that she mailed without fail for all occasions, but most of all for Betty’s sweet, loving, caring ways, and her sincere devotion to family and friends. Betty will be missed and loved very much by all who knew her. She made many lasting friendships during her lifetime; she considered her friends as family.
Betty was a 25-year member of the Matthew Thornton Chapter in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in Nashua, NH. Betty’s Patriot ancestor is Pvt. Moses Buck of MA. She was also a member for many years with TOPS – NH Chapter 0131 in Nashua, NH.
Betty was predeceased by her husband and parents also her sisters Joan Libby, Jean Campbell, Shirley Campbell, her brother John Campbell, brothers-in-law Dennis Sweetser and Richard Libby and also by her parents-in-law Roger and Ruth Stone.
Betty is survived by her loving and devoted children; her son Dale A. Stone, his wife Karen and their daughters Katie and Jessica, and her fiancé Andy Lavelle all of Nashua, NH; her daughter Dawn A. (Stone) Duff, her husband Dennis of Watertown, MA; her son Richard D. Stone, his wife Debra of Somers, CT, and their daughters Hanna (Stone) Dugger and her husband Bryan of Plymouth, MA, Abby of Somers, CT, Molly of Nashville, TN, and their son Dean of Somers, CT. She is also survived by her loving sister Donna (Campbell) Sweetser and sister-in-law Joyce Campbell, both of Auburn, ME; also, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Services: There will be a private family service for Betty Stone. A walkthrough visitation will be held Friday, May 7, 2021 from 11:00am-12:30pm at Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, Nashua, NH 03064. Burial will be in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH, 110 Daniel Webster HWY., 03303 at 1:30pm and all are invited to attend. Due to Covid protocols, masks, and social distancing will be required.
