Obituary for Caroline Florence Lund (Hayward)

Caroline Florence Lund, age 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at her home in Nashua that she built with her late husband Richard K. Lund. She passed away after a period of declining health with her family by her side. She was born on September 26, 1921 in Nashua, the daughter of the late Henry James and Caroline (Boucher) Hayward.

A Nashua native and 1939 Nashua High School graduate, Florence lived life to the fullest and was always willing to try new things. She enjoyed taking care of others and was a caregiver from the beginning, graduating from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1942 and working as a private duty nurse. She was also a past member of the NH State Nurses Association and Treasurer for St. Joseph’s Hospital Alumni Association for 22 years. In 1965 she graduated from cosmetology school and transitioned into making people look good and feel good about themselves in her home beauty parlor.

Florence and her husband loved spending time at their summer camp in the lakes region and then became snowbirds, wintering in Betmar, Zephyrhills Florida until 1999. She loved bowling, crafts and spending time with her family and frequently volunteered for the Salvation Army as a Bell Ringer. She spent her last few years attending Senior Class Daycare where she made new friends and she was very happy. She also loved sharing her days with Roscoe, the family dog.

Richard and Florence were married on September 8, 1945 in Nashua and were married for 54 beautiful years until his passing on February 15, 2000. In addition to her husband, Florence was predeceased by her brother Raymond Hayward and his wife Rita, sisters Rita and her husband Alan Nute, Doris Hayward and Helen and her husband Aldege Therrien and her beloved cousin Jessie Cole.

Florence is survived by her children Kenneth and his wife Maureen with whom she lived and daughter Karen Lund; Grandchildren Lori Bousnakis, Ann Marie Frick and her husband Joshua and George A. Geer III and his wife Yana; Great grandchildren, Samuel and Vincent Bousnakis, Jeremy and Shannon Bosse and a Godchild Joyce Ann Forsman. Florence also leaves behind many loving extended family members and dear friends.

SERVICE: All are welcome to attend a calling hour on Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 10:00-11:00AM at the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St., Nashua. A service will start at 11:00AM at the funeral home with Deacon John Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Main St., Nashua. Florence requested that there be no flowers. Instead she asked that donations be made in her memory to Amedisys Foundation, 3854 American Way, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70801 or a charity of your choice.
