Obituary for Chester Stanley Litchfield Jr.

Reverend Stan Litchfield, born Chester Stanley Litchfield Jr., passed away at home early Wednesday morning, May 6, 2020 after a short battle with cancer. He was born on February 21, 1926 in Somerville, Massachusetts. He served in both World War II with the navy and the Korean War with the army, earning two purple hearts and a silver star. He retired to Hollis, NH in 1990 with his beloved wife, Barbara. He is predeceased by his son Mark and daughter Joy. He is survived by his son, Scott and Linda Litchfield (Nashua), his step-children, Marilyn and Ray Nieuweboer (Hollis, NH) and Bill Sethares and Ann Bell (Madison, WI). He has numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He and Barbara were co-pastors of Shepherd’s Staff Ministries through which they shared a passion for their Lord and His work both locally and around the world. Stan was an avid woodworker, crafting birdhouses, bowls, children’s toys, small furniture, lamps, and signs. He spent many hours in his workshop giving life to the projects that most would only dream of. For many years the Litchfield garden produced enough vegetables to feed a small town. Stan and Barbara had a mini-farm with chickens, and rabbits, but their favorite barnyard animals by far were the Nubian goats that provided endless hours of entertainment, milk, and cheese.

SERVICES: A private service will be held at East Cemetery in Hollis, NH. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Home Health and Hospice Care at 7 Executive Park Drive in Merrimack, NH 03054, or online at https://www.hhhc.org/how-to-help/ . Hospice provided exceptional care and guidance for Stan’s family as we navigated through his last days, treating us as if we were the only people on their schedule for the day. Our hope is that when faced with similar circumstances, others will be able to experience the same levels of care and concern.
