Obituary for Cynthia Bernice Covey

Cynthia Bernice Covey, 82, lifelong resident of Nashua, NH died July 12, 2022, after a period of declining health.

She was born in Nashua, NH on March 8, 1940, a birthday she shared years later with her youngest daughter. She was the daughter of Reynold A Dean and Muriel P (Saunders) Dean. Cynthia’s family was her world. She is survived by her daughter Darlene Bravo-Perez, her spouse Anthony and her much loved grandchildren John Paul and Hannah Alexandria, her daughter Elizabeth and her partner Michael, her brother Reynold II, her brother Alan and his spouse Marianne and their children. She was predeceased by her loving parents, older brother Paul and her sister-in-law Mariette.

Cynthia was a homemaker most of her life but had many hobbies. She enjoyed knitting, her mittens were much sought after at local craft fairs, puttering around in her garden growing vegetables to share with the neighbors, listening to classical music and attending the concerts of Andre Rieu and the Boston Pops, and collecting her beloved nutcrackers. Although she professed to dislike frogs, she would laugh deeply each year she was gifted with one from her daughter Beth, an inside joke from a Mother’s Day gift that went awry years ago when Beth was young.

She graduated from Nashua High School with the class of 1957 and went on the serve on the reunion committee for each reunion from the 10th to the 50th. She relished catching up with her classmates and sharing the camaraderie each time.
She entered the Order of the Rainbow, Assembly 9 as a young girl, staying until she turned twenty and joined the Pilgrim Chapter 55 of the Order of the Eastern Star where she was still a member upon her death, serving over 70 years. Cynthia was immensely proud of being awarded the Grand Cross of Color for distinguished service to the Order of The Rainbow for girls. She also was a lifelong Girl Scout starting as a Brownie, becoming a Red Cross certified lifeguard at camp in her teens and later in life a Troop Leader of Troop 720 in Nashua. Somehow, she even found time to be a Cub Scout pack leader for several years. You could say was ahead of her time as she allowed her daughter Darlene to be part of the pack!

In her later years she assisted her father with his work in the NH Eye Bank and became a director when the group merged with Three Links Visual Recourse, Inc., always bringing delicious homemade treats to each meeting. Her unwavering commitment to service lasted her entire life, a trait she was thrilled to watch her children and grandchildren continue in their lives.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Courville at Nashua for their years of dedicated care and love they gave her, especially in her twilight hours.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on July 28th, 2022, from 3-6 PM at The Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St, Nashua, NH. Friends and family are invited to attend. Burial will be private.
