Obituary for Dr. Sidney Katz

Dr. Sidney Robert Katz of Nashua and Jackson, NH was born October 30, 1942 in Jersey City, NJ to Jacob “Jack” and Adele (Brown) Katz. Sidney died February 2, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He graduated from Trinity College, Hartford, CT in 1964 and New York Medical College in 1968.
Sidney served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war and was stationed at Utapao Air Force base in Thailand. After he was discharged from the Air Force, he completed his residency in urology at Boston City Hospital. Sidney moved to Nashua in 1975 and practiced urology until 2004. He was an active member of the medical staff, holding several positions at Southern NH Medical Center including chief of surgery and chief of the medical staff. He also served on the board of trustees from 1991-2001 and was chairman of the board from 1996-1999. He served on the board of Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH. He was chief of surgery at the VA Hospital in Manchester, NH where he was beyond proud to help and serve his fellow veterans. In his free time, he cherished the natural beauty of the White Mountains of Jackson, NH.
Sidney leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Susan (Kaplan) Katz and his children Jeremy Katz and Jill Katz. He also leaves his brother Ralph Katz and Barbara Frey of New York City and West Hartford, CT., sister in law, Elsa Cantor and husband Donald Lamberty of Fairfield CT., brother in law Daniel Kaplan and wife Pamela of Wellesley, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and life long friends.
SERVICES: A graveside service will be held, Wednesday February 5, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Edgewood Cemetery, 107 Amherst St. Nashua, NH 03064 with Rabbi Jonathan Spira-Savett officiating. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend and meet directly at the cemetery. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution can do so to Merrimack Community Hospice House, 7 Executive Park Dr. Merrimack, NH, The Nashua Humane Society, 24 Ferry Rd. Nashua, NH 03064, or to a charity of one’s choice. The DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, One Lock St., Nashua has been placed in charge of arrangements. “ONE MEMORY LIGHTS ANOTHER”.
