Obituary for Eleanor Whittemore (Hardy)

Eleanor Whittemore, a lifelong resident of Hollis, New Hampshire passed away on Friday evening April 1, 2022. Born on December 27, 1926, in the house she spent her life in, she was the youngest of 5 children of Harold and Estelle Hardy. She grew up working on the family farm and when she married Frank Whittemore, he too became an integral part of Brookdale Fruit Farm through their 78 years of marriage.
Eleanor packed apples and worked in the office at Brookdale while raising her four children and beyond. She earned her Associates degree in accounting at Daniel Webster College to aid in her work.
In addition to her service to her family and the family business, Eleanor lived her life in service to the community. Eleanor devoted many hours to the Town of Hollis in her many positions on town boards including the Cemetery Commission, the Library Trustees, a State Representative and served on the Planning Board, Master Plan Committee, Water Task Force and was the first Selectwoman of the town.
Eleanor did not limit her energies to just the town. She was a member for many years and served as President of the National Extension Homemakers of America. She travelled to every state in the United States and as part of a U S Department of Agriculture group travelled to China and Korea. In her later years, she often reflected on her travels, appreciative of the opportunities she had to learn about other cultures and places, and thankful for all that she had learned and the friends she made through her travels over the years.
Most of all, Eleanor was a proud mother of her children and their families and would happily talk your ear off about each of them. She was happiest when everyone was together laughing, singing, and having fun together.
Eleanor is survived by her son Frank Whittemore and his wife Lynne of Kensington, NH, her daughter Ruth Whittemore of Hollis, NH and Merrimac, Ma, her daughter Joan and her husband, Russ Marcum of Hollis NH, her grandchildren, Marlyn Miller of Merrimac, Ma, Jason Miller and his wife Danelle of Las Vegas, NV, Patrick Sabatini and his wife Courtney of Franklin, TN, Coleen Sabatini of Oakland, CA, Kristen Sylvester of San Diego, CA, William Sylvester of Burlington, MA and three great grandchildren, Elijah Miller of Merrimac, MA, Ethan Miller of Santa Monica, CA and Sawyer Sabatini of Franklin , TN.
