Obituary for Elizabeth Ann "Betty" LaPolice (McCarthy)

NASHUA – Betty LaPolice, 85 of Nashua NH comfortably passed away on Friday August 2, 2019.
Betty was born to Florence “James” McCarthy and Cora (Voter) on 3/22/34 and grew up in North Brookfield Mass.
Betty was proud to be Irish and was a cheerleader in High School when she met her husband Richard “Dick” LaPolice from Ware Mass on a blind date. In those days Ware HS would not allow guests from other towns to the Senior Prom, however, Dick being the Captain of the Football team and Sr. Class President convinced the school board to do the right thing and allow participants from other towns.
While Dick was serving for the Navy, Betty and Dick were married at St Joseph’s church in North Brookfield. After serving in the Navy, Betty and Dick relocated to Amherst Mass where Dick pursued a degree from UMass. There Betty was a hairdresser and was the President of the U Mass Dames Club. Betty and Dick settled in Nashua NH in 1966 to start their family. There Betty and Dick were blessed with the greatest friends and enjoyed many years of special times and memories for life. Dick would often boast that the best restaurant in the world was at home. Her house in Nashua or the family cottage in Freedom NH was warm and welcoming to anyone who entered. Christmas eve was always a special night when she would serve her famous Pork Pie, Oyster casserole and special goodies to her family, friends and neighbors. Betty would also host St. Patrick’s parties with her friends every year and would always make the best cakes and deserts for the gathering. Betty treasured her lifelong friendships, enjoyed gardening, but most of all watching football. This started when watching Dick in HS, going to Holy Cross games with her father, then HS and college games with Matt and Paul and finally following Paul as a coach in the CFL. Betty and Dick would travel to every game; home, away, good weather or bad. Always supporting her father’s tradition of tailgating before the game. Betty’s most memorable game was in London England following Matt at BU and along with way visiting the family homestead in Ireland. Family, friendships and football were Betty’s passions and she enjoyed them all. Every fall Betty would knit sweaters and mittens for her boys to get them thru the winter. Memories of Betty would not be complete without mentioning her banana bread which was famous throughout the Nashua area.
Betty is predeceased by her mother, Cora, father James, brother Bob and husband Dick. She leaves her three sons, Peter, Matt & Paul their wives Nancy, Mary and Tina and grandchildren James, Rachael, Troy, Peyton, Josh and Mallory along with her cousins Margret Reed and Richard McCarthy and her nieces and nephews.
