Obituary for Francesca R Lechtrecker (Beitel)

We are sad to announce that our mother, Francesca, or Franny or Fran as her friends called her, passed away in October, 2020, at the age of 94 in Goffstown, NH where she had been living for the past 3 years. She lived a long and eventful life, and remained spirited and full of advice to the very end.

Born in Bellport, NY to Giuseppe and Vincenza DiNaro on January 31, 1926, she was the second youngest of eight children. Growing up they didn’t have much money, as in none, but they were a tightly knit family. Everybody lived into their 90’s and remained close throughout, spent a lot of time together, had a lot of fun, and were a vibrant and loving extended family for all of their many children.

Our mom worked various jobs, as a bank teller, a bookkeeper, a real estate agent, and a campaign adviser for Otis Pike, congressman of the First Congressional District of New York (a very long time ago). She loved working in politics, which provided her with endless stories she could tell in the ensuing years, all of which we heard countless times but still managed to enjoy through the decades.

But her real passion was gardening, which she passed on to her children, despite the hours (years) of weeding she had us do. She had a true natural talent for design, and her gardens were enjoyed by all who passed by on their walks to the bay. Many were featured in national publications such as Better Homes and Gardens and Architectural Digest. If Heaven is a garden she’s transplanting something right now.

Francesca was a loving mother to Marcy, Eugene, Elaine (deceased), and John; a devoted grandmother to Hosa, Laurel, Julia, Daniel, Jason, and Eliza; and great grandmother to Hunter, Riley, Kyan and Ryla. She is survived by her best friend and sister, Josephine.

Mom, we’re going to be fine.
Love you

A Memorial Service will be held in Bellport, NY at a later date. Those of you who would like a memorial donation can do so to Make a Wish Foundation or Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC.
