Obituary for Gertrude June O'Brien
Gertrude J. O'Brien, 98, passed away on April 11, 2023, at Langdon Place in Nashua, NH. Gertrude was born on June 17, 1924, in Charlestown, MA, to parents Francis and Bridget (Rahilly) Downey. She was raised in the Somerville area and graduated from Somerville High School.
She was the wife of William O'Brien and together they lived in Windsor, CT for many years. She worked in the administrative office for the Knights of Columbus Insurance Co. in New Haven, CT before settling in Nashua, NH. They were married for 23 years before William's passing in September 1994.
Gertrude loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored and doted on. She was also close to many nieces and nephews, whom she always made time for. Gertrude had a beautiful singing voice and was an active member of the choir at the Catholic church while living in Connecticut. She also loved traveling, often taking trips with her sister Anna Cunniff, and enjoyed dining out, going to the movie theater, and reading.
Besides her husband, Gertrude is predeceased by her sons, Edward and Allen Bowe.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Bowe Herrick and her husband Brian Herrick of Merrimack, NH, and her grandchildren, Chris Richter of New York City, NY, Ashley Herrick of Milford, NH, and Lauren Herrick of New York City, NY.
