Obituary for Gloria L. Avril

Gloria Avril, most recently of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2023, at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her children and other family during her final days.

Gloria was born on August 1, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York, a place she looked back on with great fondness throughout her life. She met her husband, Bill, while working at the Williamsburg Savings Bank in Brooklyn and they were married for 50 years until his passing in 2002. During their marriage Bill and Gloria, with increasingly more children in tow, lived in the borough of Queens in New York City; Fanwood, New Jersey; Liverpool, New York; Longmeadow, Framingham and Acton, Massachusetts; Timonium, Maryland; and Naperville, Illinois and upon retirement, for the past 32 years in Nashua, New Hampshire, enjoying winter months in Sarasota, Florida.

Gloria was more than anything else, a “stay at home mom,” and manager of numerous family moves, however once her children were older, she worked at Century Insurance in Concord, Massachusetts, Foster & Foster Realty in Acton and the English Department of Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. She read for the blind and volunteered with a program that transported those needing physical help to church on Sundays. She also was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua. Gloria was a huge supporter of her children’s extra-curricular activities and other pursuits and eventually those of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with her husband, she traveled many times to Europe, throughout North America, and the Caribbean.

Gloria is survived by her four children, Wanda Avril of Carlisle, Massachusetts, Cynthia Maxwell of Carlisle, Massachusetts, William Avril (Karen) of Norton, Massachusetts, and Marianne Brooks (David) of Mashpee, Massachusetts, as well as eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Viola Longo, a brother, Francis Longo, and sister Genevieve Pollock.

SERVICES: A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Church, 29 Spring St in Nashua on Friday, May 26th at 9:00 a.m. A procession will lead to the interment at St Louis Cemetery, 752 W. Hollis St, Nashua, NH. Friends and family are invited to attend.
