Obituary for Harold W. Solomon

Harold W. Solomon, age 89, of Nashua, NH, passed away unexpectedly at Southern NH medical Center on Sunday March 19, 2023. He was the husband of the late Marilyn (Herman) Solomon who died on November 1, 2015.

He was born in Turners Falls, MA on June 24, 1933, son of the late David & Pauline (Skura) Solomon. He was a graduate of Turners Falls High School, then attended UMass Amherst where he earned his bachelor’s degree in physics. He served in the US Navy from 1955 until 1959.

Harold moved from Virginia in the late 1950’s to an apartment in Downtown Nashua. Shortly after, he and Marilyn purchased a home in the northwest part of the city where they raised three children. For a time, Harold worked at Sanders Associates as an engineer but quickly realized his desire and ambition to strike out on his own. He never looked back! Harold was an entrepreneur most of his working life specializing in Environmental Remediation and Pollution Control, starting a company called EMTEK, and later formed another company called Universal Environmental Technologies (UET). He invented and patented several devices over the years that were both innovative and unique to the industries he served.

A legend in the local soccer community, Harold was an avid soccer player for over 45 years, playing as recently as a few months ago. He was looking forward to playing outside in the spring. He participated in 60+ Nashua World Cup Tournaments and was a long-time member of the Nashua Soccer Council and the Over-the-Hill Soccer League. He was instrumental in bringing the first youth soccer league to Nashua where he also coached for many years.

His biggest passions were environmental remediation, soccer and his family. As a “force of nature” and an eternal optimist, he would persist through any challenge while keeping a smile on his face. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Derek Berna; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Becky Solomon and Michael and Andrea Solomon; his grandchildren, James McMurchy and his wife Alyssa, Matthew Solomon, Noah Solomon, Anna Solomon and Sarah Solomon; a great-grandchild, Dylan; his companion, Charlotte Shapiro. He was brother of the late Max, Edward and Rosalind.

SERVICES: A private family Graveside Service will held at Temple Beth Abraham Cemetery in Nashua, NH Wednesday March 22, 2023. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, the family requests that donations in his name be made to an environmental cause close to your heart, or a local Youth Soccer League. The DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, One Lock Street, Nashua has been placed in charge of arrangements, an online guestbook is available www.DavisFuneralHomeNH.com, (603-883-3401) “ONE MEMORY LIGHTS ANOTHER”.
