Obituary for Ilda Gomes (Bastos)

On Sunday, April 25th, 2021 Ilda (Bastos) Gomes, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at the age of 86.
Ilda was born October 7th, 1935 in the small village of Albergaria-a-Nova, Portugal. In 1958 Ilda married her husband and love of her life Manuel Gomes and in the following years had two beautiful children, Rosa and Manuel Jr. In 1966 they moved to Somerville, MA to live the American dream and give their family the best lives possible.
Ilda’s greatest passion in life was her family. She loved visits or phone calls with family, especially her granddaughters who she called her “flowers.” She was an outspoken woman who was always cracking a joke or breaking into song and dance. She played a mean air guitar and loved to entertain her family with her antics, which she would follow up with a sly wink. Ilda was preceded in death by her father Joao, mother Maria, brothers Silvino and Marcelino as well as her beloved daughter Rosa. She is survived by her husband Manuel Gomes Sr., son Manuel Gomes Jr. and wife Deborah, granddaughter Michelle Pinheiro Dickens and husband Todd, granddaughter Melinda Pinheiro Downs and husband Timothy, granddaughter Jessica Ford and husband Jeffery, and granddaughters Vanessa Gomes and Brittany Sullivan. Ilda also leaves behind great granddaughters Desiree Pinheiro and Layla Ford, sisters Beatriz and Laura as well as many other beloved family members.
We will always carry her memory in our hearts.
