Obituary for John Joseph Ghiorzi

John Joseph Ghiorzi, age 77, died October 5, 2020, at his residence in Bedford Hills Center in Bedford NH. He was born January 30, 1943, in New York, NY, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Soracchi) Ghiorzi.

He was the husband of Angie (Barone) Ghiorzi. They were married on April 9, 1972 in Long Island City, NY.

He attended St. Agnes High School, New York, NY., and went on to graduate from Pace University, New York, NY., with a degree in Business. John spent 36 years working for the Federal Government where he proudly served as the Director of Child Nutrition and the Food Stamp Program.

While he was able, John took an active role in helping support Parkinson’s research by participating in studies and even lobbying for funding. John loved history and watching old movies. He really enjoyed writing and had wrote a few short stories in his spare time. He also loved sports, especially his beloved Mets and Jets. John was a very faithful Catholic and always made time to attend mass at his local parish. Ultimately, John found the most joy in spending time with his family and friends typically over a delicious meal that he prepared.

Besides John’s loving wife, Angie, he is survived by his son David Ghiorzi and his wife Dawn Ghiorzi, daughter Marisa Ghiorzi Lovett and her husband Jeremy Lovett and his grandchildren; Michael Ghiorzi, Sara Ghiorzi, Liliana Lovett and Keira Lovett. He is also survived by his brother-in-law & sister-in-law, John and Matilde Barone, nephew Michael Barone and nieces Gabriella Barone and Daniela Campfield.

John and his family would like to acknowledge the staff at the Bedford Hills Center where John was cared for with dignity, love and compassion. We are forever grateful to you!
