Obituary

John "Jack" Kirkpatrick passed away on July 8, 2020 at the Community Hospice House after a period of declining health. Jack was born on May 6, 1946 and was the son of the late William & Phyllis (Westerhoff) Kirkpatrick. He resided in Merrimack for 33 years with his beloved wife Nancy (Truell) Kirkpatrick - they were married for 50 years.

Jack graduated from Nashua High School in 1966 and then served two years in the Air Force before he returned to Nashua. He worked at his family’s former store - Kirkpatrick's Corner Variety on Concord Street, and then later at Nashua Corporation as a technician for 35 years. Most recently, he worked at Lowe's in Amherst for ten years before retiring in 2016.

As an avid outdoorsman Jack loved hunting, fishing, and hiking. He was a lifelong member of the Merrimack Horseshoe Fish and Game Club and enjoyed sharing memories and hunting stories with all of his friends there. More than anything, Jack loved spending time with his grandson Gavin going on nature walks, teaching him how to fish, drive his tractor and explore the outdoors. “Papa” (as he is affectionally known) is Gavin’s best friend and Jack spent as much time as he could with him creating memories – camping in the backyard, sitting by the firepit, playing on the beach and teaching him about all the things in life that Gavin loves most. The love, guidance and friendship Jack gave to Gavin will be dearly missed.

Jack is survived by his daughter Alana Kirkpatrick and his grandson Gavin of Nashua. He has one brother Bill Kirkpatrick and wife Jane of Campton, NH. He has one sister-in-law Brenda Breen and husband Ray of Jaffrey, NH, several nieces and nephews, one great niece and one great nephew, and several cousins.

SERVICES: Visiting hours are Wednesday July 15, 2020 from 11-1 pm at the Davis Funeral Home in Nashua. 1 Lock St, Nashua, NH 03064, followed by a graveside service at Edgewood cemetery, 107 Amherst St., Nashua, NH 03064. Family and friends are invited attend. Please be sure to wear a mask and to respect social distancing guidelines. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home Health & Hospice Care at 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054. The Davis Funeral Home has been placed in charge of arrangements. I have one fond memory of Jack Kirkpatrick, my friend Jon’s uncle. II was probably ten and it was a hot summer day and Jon’s uncle was over at 90 Hillsferry visiting for the afternoon. He brought out his bow and arrow and was practicing shooting in the backyard. I remember him being very kind and asking me if I’d like him to show me how to shoot the bow. For me, it was a great day doing something I had never done before. I am proud to say that I still shoot regularly and have taught my granddaughter Emma how to shoot as well. That simple summer day has always stuck with me. Thank you Uncle Jack

On behalf of Horseshoe Fish & Game Club in Merrimack I would like to offer my condolences to the family. John (We all knew him as Jack) was a great sportsman, great club member, and great person. He was great to be around with at the Club and we will all miss him. May he rest in peace.
