Obituary for John P. Rogers Jr.

John Phelps Rogers ,70, died on Saturday, June 17, 2023, in Merrimack, NH. He was born June 17, 1953, in Binghamton NY, the son of the late John Rogers Sr. and Lorraine Gardner Rogers. He was the husband of Judith (Jaye) Moriarty. They were married on July 15th, 1978, in Northampton, MA.

Born in Binghamton, New York on June 17, 1953, he was the son of the late John P. and Lorraine (née Gardner) Rogers, Sr. He grew up in Binghamton and graduated from Chenango Valley High School in 1971. Continuing his education, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in 1976, where he was Tau Beta Pi (the oldest engineering honor society in the nation), and, in 1999, he completed a master’s degree in computer science from Boston University.

In 1976, John moved to Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The following year he met his soul mate, Judith (Jaye) Rogers (née Moriarty). The two were married on July 15, 1978. Together they raised 3 children, John P. Rogers, III; Ashley L. Rogers; and William M. Rogers. They lived in the beautiful town of Chelmsford for 46 years before relocating to Nashua, New Hampshire in the fall of 2022.

For almost 12 years, John worked at Akamai Technologies in Cambridge, Massachusetts and made great, long-lasting friendships with colleagues and fellow commuters.

Throughout his life, John was an avid skier and frequented Waterville Valley, Loon Mountain, and Killington Ski Resorts. He enjoyed biking along the coastline near Plum Island, hiking the White Mountains of New Hampshire, golfing at Chelmsford Country Club and taking daily walks with his wife and dog, the late Rufus. John was a historian, reading and learning about various great events in history.

John is survived by his wife Judith (Jaye) Rogers (Nashua, NH); his children, John Rogers (Lowell, MA), Ashley Rogers and Diana Pho (Brooklyn, NY), William Rogers and Mollie-Anne Maxfield (Medford, MA); his siblings, Kathleen, Corey, and Nick Pappas (Binghamton, NY), Robert and Barbara Rogers (Marietta, NY), Martin and Patti Jo Rogers (Nashville, TN); and many nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m, at the DAVIS FUNERAL HOME located on 1 Lock Street, Nashua, NH 03064. Family and friends are invited to attend.
