Obituary for Joyce Frances Mohrmann (Smithies)

Joyce Frances Smithies Mohrmann, 91, died January 25, 2021 at Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, NH. She was born on October 5, 1929 in Westfield, MA to Franklin and Florence Smithies.

She married Richard Dietrick Mohrmann on June 30, 1951 in Lee, MA. They raised their family in Nashua, NH and celebrated 69 happy years of marriage last June.

Joy graduated from El Monte Union High School in El Monte California. She was the proud owner of Mom’s Last Stand, her own hot dog stand that she loved running in Nashua at special events and local parks. Joy was employed as a companion to the elderly as well as at the Suisse Chalet doing accounts receivable.

Joy enjoyed trips to Foxwood Casino, and she loved family get togethers and playing cards. She was a long-time active member of the VFW Auxiliary Nashua Post 483. She was a descendant of General Artemas Ward, a major general in the American Revolutionary War.

She is predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Jamie Mohrmann, and her sisters, Marion Hunter and Florence Pleu.

She is survived by her husband Dick; her two sons Richard Mohrmann (Cynthia Campbell) of Merrimack, NH, Bruce (Janet) Mohrmann of Waterville, OH; her four grandchildren: Richard (Kristyn) Mohrmann of Nashua, NH, Crystal (Aaron) Crawford of Goffstown, NH, Kelly (Jesse) Schmidt of Gainesville, FL and Lindsay Mohrmann of Waterville, OH. She also left behind one great-granddaughter: Isla JOY Schmidt of Gainesville, FL.

In keeping with COVID-19 safety restrictions, no visitation will be held. A graveside service will be held at noon on February 3, 2021 at Edgewood Cemetery, 107 Amherst Street, Nashua, NH with Pastor Andy Armstrong and Jami Boyle officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend. The service will also be streamed live, and the link will be available through the funeral home's Facebook page.
