Obituary for Linda May Ayer (Horne)

Linda May (Horne) Ayer, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Premier Healthcare in Nashua, New Hampshire. She was the widow of the late Donald R. Ayer, who passed away in August 1983 after 32 years of marriage. Linda was born on October 28, 1929 in Ashley Falls, Massachusetts and was the daughter of the late Malcolm C. Horne and the late Anna (VanDeusen) Horne.
Linda and her two sisters, Wilma and Alma, were raised in Buffalo, NY, where they graduated from Bennett High School and went on to the State University of New York at Buffalo. After graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, she went on to teach 2nd grade in Kenmore, NY.

After her marriage to Donald Ayer in 1951, Linda joined Don at a summer job at Bell Aircraft Corp. in Niagara Falls, NY, in the Dynamics Dept. The next move was to Wellsville, NY, where she taught 1st grade until her first daughter was born. A business visit by her husband to Nashua, NH resulted in a job opportunity at the former Sanders Associates. Soon after, the move was made to Nashua in 1955.

At her new city, Linda became involved by attending Board of Education meetings, joining the Newcomers Club (where she soon was voted president). This was the first of many organizations she became president of: Broad St. PTA; Junior Women’s Club; Nashua Theatre Guild and NH Community Theater Association.

Linda was very involved in Nashua Theatre Guild and was seen in numerous productions over many years. When she wasn’t acting, she was always busy behind the scenes. She also worked as a substitute teacher in the Nashua school system over a long period of time.

Some of Linda’s most enjoyable times were spent at their vacation chalet in Gilford, NH, where the family of seven enjoyed winter skiing at Gunstock Ski Area and summer swimming and boating at Lake Winnipesaukee. After the passing of her husband, Linda took a job at Sanders Associates in security until she retired in 1998. Some time thereafter she worked at Out of the Woods gift shop in Merrimack, NH until it closed.

Besides her parents and her husband, Linda was predeceased by her sister Wilma Meyer. She is survived by her sister Alma Kelly; her five children: Dianne and Jim Flowers, Randall and Vicky Ayer, Cynthia and Dana Harris, Victoria and Kevin Kendall, and Laurie Provencher; seven grandchildren: Abra and Robert Luce, Christopher Ayer, Bethany and Jon Ladd, Jennifer and Joseph Nault, Karen and Aaron Morrow, Jeffrey and Danielle Kendall, and Emily Kendall; nine great-grandchildren Landon Nault, Gavin Nault, Charlotte Ladd, Evelyn Ladd, Weston Ladd, Grayson Kendall, Harper Kendall, Ezra Morrow, and Jace Morrow. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

SERVICES: A funeral service will be held at Christian Bible Church, 205 Manchester Street, Nashua, NH on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 1:00 pm. Interment will be immediately following at Edgewood Cemetery, 107 Amherst Street, Nashua, NH. Family and friends are invited to attend. The Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St., Nashua, NH has been placed in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Home Health and Hospice, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03063, for their loving care for Linda.
