Marcella (Douphinett) Dufour, 99, of Nashua, passed away February 14, 2021 at Langdon Place of Nashua.
She was born on April 22, 1921 in Franklin, NH, a daughter of Francis and Mary (Hebert) Douphinett.
She was a longtime resident of Nashua, having moved here with her husband John from Manchester in 1948.
Marcella and John met in 1940 while students at Keene Teachers College in Keene, NH. They were married on October 17, 1944 in Seattle, Washington, where Lt. Dufour’s ship, USS Concord, was in port for repairs.
Marcella was a graduate of Franklin (NH) High School. After working for a year in Franklin she left for college at Keene, where she received a bachelor’s degree in home economics education. Marcella suspended her teaching career to raise four boys. She eventually returned to teaching in the Nashua school system, where she worked as a substitute teacher at Nashua High School and taught night classes in sewing.
Marcella was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Nashua. She enjoyed travel, gardening, cooking, sewing, and weekends on the garage sale circuit with her husband John. She was truly at her happiest when surrounded by her loving family or visiting with her dear friends.
Marcella is predeceased by her loving husband, John D. Dufour who passed December 20, 2007.
Marcella is survived by son Jay and his wife Nancy Dufour, son Jim Dufour and his wife Junjie Fang, son Peter and his wife Leslie Dufour, son Paul and his wife Marsha Dufour; Grandchildren Martha Dufour Dunham, Matt Dufour, Daniel Dufour, Patrick Dufour, Hilary Dufour, Paul Dufour, and Tess Dufour; Great-grandchildren, Lucas Dunham and Elin Dufour; several nieces and nephews.
