Obituary for Mary Jane Carlson
MaryJane Paradis Carlson, age 100, died 25 October, 2019 at her home in Nashua, NH. She was born on 30 August, 1919 in Brunswick, Maine, the daughter of Ludger A. Paradis 1896-1956 and Marie Emma Yvonne (Dube) Paradis Fortin, (1900-1972).
She was the Wife of Robert Howard Carlson They were married on 17 September, 1942 at Fort Williams Chapel, South Portland, Maine.
MaryJane, MarieJeunne as she was known to her Parents, attended the Brunswick, Maine school system and graduated from Brunswick High School. She was the eldest of 3 girls born into the Paradis family, her sisters being Gertrude Ursala Paradis Peabody (1922–2009) and Theresa M Paradis Hudson (1926–2006).
After her marriage to Robert Howard in 1942, MaryJane joined her husband in his long and distinguished military career. That function put her in charge of the family logistics from WW2 through the Vietnam wars and found her establishing family HQ in Waco, TX; El Paso, TX, Savannah, GA, Wurzburg, Germany, Youngstown, NY; and Albuquerque, NM.
As Robert Howard transitioned to Civil Service, MaryJane continued her mission of maintaining the family at several homes in NJ followed by a long tour of duty in Germany which found them at Heidelberg and Berlin.
Throughout her travels, MaryJane considered Brunswick, Maine as her family’s ancestral root origins and held Brunswick and her extended family members close to her heart. In between tours of duty, Brunswick was always her point of refuge.
MaryJane was a constant member of the various NCO and Officer’s clubs as well as Catholic and Army sponsored organizations. While raising her two boys she was active in Cub and Boy scouting.
After a long military and civil service life experience, MaryJane and Robert moved to Nashua, NH in 1992 and took up residence there. Even after Roberts death (2015) in the home, she continued to live there until the end.
MaryJane was Predeceased by her two sisters, Gertrude Ursala Paradis Peabody (1922–2009) and Theresa M Paradis Hudson (1926–2006) and her husband Robert Howard Carlson (1921-2015)
MaryJane Survived by her two sons, Robert J. Carlson and Richard J, Carlson and by ger grandchildren, Deborah Carlson Goldfein, Erik Carlson and Paul Litter and by her great-grandchildren, Aaron and Shoshanna Goldfein, Meadow Carlson, Ethan Marrone-Rey, and Sophie and Madeline Litterer.
MaryJane and Bob, her late Husband of 63 years will be interred in her family’s cemetery plot in St John’s Cemetery, Brunswick, Maine in a formal ceremony in the summer of 2020.
