Obituary for Melitta Hevesh (Schiffer)

Melitta (Schiffer) Hevesh, 95, died on January 10, 2023 at Langdon Place of Nashua, NH. She was born on February 14, 1927 in Vienna, Austria, the daughter of Marcus and Paula Schiffer. She was the wife of Avery Hevesh. At the time of her passing, she was just 5 weeks shy of her 96th birthday. It was a peaceful passing, and she was surrounded by her loving children Elizabeth, Mark, and Joseph.

Melitta attended grade school in Vienna until the age of 12, at which point, in April, 1939, she and her parents emigrated to America and settled in Brooklyn, as the Third Reich had annexed and taken over Austria. In America, she learned English and assimilated quickly, and after completing high school, she attended City College in Brooklyn, graduating with a degree in Psychology around 1949. She was very active in Social Clubs which were popular at that time. Melitta and Avery met in one of these, and were married on May 24, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York. They shared 66 years of marriage together, separated only by Avery’s own passing on May 20, 2018, days shy of their 67th anniversary.

Melitta and Avery settled in Framingham Mass, where they raised their three children. Melitta was very active in the community, playing leading or supporting roles in Haddasah, Community Concerts, Garden Club, and The Sudbury Savoyards Theatre Group, and more. They also owned properties in Mashpee, Cape Cod, and Vista California, where they enjoyed spending time with family members and close friends. Melitta and Avery enjoyed symphony, opera, and theater together, and they traveled the world extensively for several decades.

Survived by her three children, Elizabeth, Mark, and Joseph; and grandchildren Joshua Hevesh and Alex Kratoska; Matthew Hevesh, Alissa Hevesh, and Lily Hevesh.

A memorial service was privately held
