Obituary for Robert Arthur Creed

Robert A. Creed, 90, of Litchfield passed away peacefully on July 4, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born in Boston, MA on August 20, 1932, son of Arthur and Bridget (Quinn) Creed.

He was predeceased by his wife Winifred, with whom he shared over 47 years of marriage, his brother, Francis Creed and sister Margaret Moffitt.

Bob enlisted in the Air Force after graduation and later earned a Master’s Degree in English Literature from Boston University. He worked for the Social Security Administration in Haverhill, MA and was a College professor in the Humanities at Hawthorne College in the evenings. During retirement, Bob enjoyed spending time with Winnie, puttering around the house and being a substitute teacher.

Bob was an avid reader and learner. He taught himself several languages, musical instruments and drawing techniques. He always had a book in hand; English literature, philosophy and religion were topics he enjoyed the most. Additionally, he appreciated the natural world by harvesting gardens, tending to fruit trees, and returning a bird’s call. He was particularly proud of a log cabin that he and his wife built in the woods of Canterbury, New Hampshire during the 1980s.

Most importantly, Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather (Bubba); always offering support, encouragement, and a helpful perspective. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Robert is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Jacqueline and Joshua Watkins, his grandchildren: Emma, William, and Abigail Watkins, a nephew: Robert Guthrie and his wife Laura, and nieces: Mary Torres and daughter Christine De Coste and her children Rachel and Joshua; and Annmarie Guthrie and her sons: Edward and David Hirst, along with Winnie’s extended family: the Dwyers from near and far.
