Obituary for Roberta Denner (Guild)

Roberta Guild Denner, passed away peacefully, in the company of loved ones, Sunday, May 30th, 2021. She was 90 years old. She was born August 12, 1930 in Granby, Quebec, Canada to the late Harold St. John Guild and Dorothy Otis Guild both of Providence, RI. As a child, Roberta, along with her parents and late sister Joanna G. Brown, lived briefly in Kentucky and New York, before returning to Providence, RI. There she would graduate from Hope High School.
Roberta met her husband, Philip F. Denner while working at Brown University and they were married in 1950, whereafter they moved to Nashua, NH and spent 68 happy years together, before Phil’s passing in 2018.
Roberta worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Memorial Hospital (now Southern NH Medical Center) and Nashua Pediatrics, retiring in 1992. She was a devoted parishioner of First Church, UCC and served as President of the Women’s Association, Deaconess, Sunday school teacher, co-chair of the fair, as well as other board positions. She was a member of the Pilgrim John Howland Society, being a descendant of the early settlers of Massachusetts in the 1630s. Like her parents before her, Roberta was passionate about exercising the right to vote, recalling their sentiment, “If you don’t like either candidate then pick the one who will do the least harm.” She was active in the republican party, working on several campaigns over the years, and serving Ward One at the polls. She also held the position of Cub Scout Den mother, as several of her children were members of the Boy Scouts.
Most of all Roberta was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She soothed all with her gentle kindness and accepting, open heart. She fondly recalled many years camping with her boys, and always had an open door for the neighborhood kids, and they knew where to go to get patched up after a scrape. Further, she always showed support by attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, musical performances, and dance recitals. In retirement, she enjoyed wintering in Treasure Island, FL with Phil.
Roberta is survived by her four sons, Peter Denner and his wife Shu-yuan Lin Denner of Pocatello, ID., Paul Denner and wife Rachel Quigley of Nashua, NH., Robert Denner and wife Terry Denner of Springs, NC., and Russell Denner and wife Lisa Denner of Saco, ME. Two nieces, Pamela Brown, and Deborah Brown. Four grandchildren, Jaclynn Denner, Sarah Denner, Michael Denner, Sean Denner and two step-grandchildren, Sophia Tsai Malmquist, and Kevin Tsai. Her great-grandchild Nicholas McIntyre Jr. and a second great-grandchild due any day, Victoria Denner.
