Rowena was married to Ronald Carr for 64 years. They were married on October 7, 1956 in Brockton, MA, moved to Nashua, NH in 1958, and then when Ron retired, built their dream home in Merrimack in 1990.

After her four children were all in school, she worked part-time for the Nashua School District driving a school bus for many years.

Music was Rowena's lifelong passion. She started cello lessons at 12 years old and performed in the family trio with her sisters. Rowena taught cello, instilling her love of the cello within her students for over 70 years. She inspired children to enjoy playing in ensembles with student recitals and through the Nashua School Music Program. Rowena performed in many ensembles including the Brockton Symphony Orchestra, ACTORSINGER Orchestra, Symphony Trio, Chanterelle Consort, Concordia Strings, Nashua Chamber Players, Nashua String Ensemble. She was in Symphony NH for 48 years and a charter member and initial principal cellist for the Nashua Chamber Orchestra. Rowena enjoyed playing music with her friends just for fun at many social and charitable events such as college receptions, Symphony House Tours, and hospital employee dinners.

Rowena was a very active member of Pilgrim Congregational Church for 62 years where the congregation enjoyed her many musical offerings as a cellist and choir member. She served on the Board of Little Pilgrim School and enjoyed working in the Pilgrim Thrift Store.

An outdoors enthusiast, she loved creating many flower gardens and filled the house with plants preparing them for sale at the annual Pilgrim Congregational Church Heritage Fair. Rowena enjoyed playing tennis and was a member of the Nashua Tennis Club. Always very active, she was an avid hiker, walker, and even cross-country skied well into her 80’s. Most importantly, she adored raising her four children and spending time with her family and friends. A skilled seamstress, she sewed all the children’s clothes when they were young and blessed the family with her excellent cooking.

For relaxation, Rowena enjoyed over 50 fun-filled summers in their Frye Island, Maine home where she entertained family and friends boating, swimming, water-skiing, reading, playing tennis and many rousing card games. Rowena also loved camping with the family, especially the annual extended family camping trip at Greenfield State Park, NH.

After Ron retired, Rowena and Ron had fantastic adventures traveling together to the National Parks and abroad to Italy, Switzerland, Spain, England and celebrated their 50th anniversary in Kenya, Africa on a safari.
