Obituary

Shawna Joice Winn, 71, died at the VA Togus Springs Hospice, in Augusta, ME, on May 8, 2020, with her siblings at her side.

Shawna was born in Nashua, NH, on March 19, 1949, as Paul Stephen Gay. Educated in Nashua schools, Paul/Shawna studied horn with Harry Tong and achieved first-chair horn in the All-State Orchestra while in high school. He joined the US Navy Seabees in 1967, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. His military training included the Damage Control School, firefighting, pump rebuilding, structural steel fabrication, and sheet metal fabrication. He also received several military honors: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert Rifleman Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, and Combat Action Ribbon.

Paul/Shawna loved cars. He remodeled a 1933 Hupmobile and customized his 1972 Dodge truck. His favorite job was a metal worker and fire truck builder for Moody Tanks of Nashua. Paul/Shawna read avidly and loved nature and animals. He also enjoyed music of all genres but particularly horn concertos by Mozart.

Surviving Paul/Shawna are his son Timothy Aaron Briand and wife Trish and four siblings—Judith Gay Kee and husband Ralph, Arthur E. Gay Jr. and wife Joann, C. Kimball Gay and wife Nora, and Carol Gay Moitozo. Paul/Shawna was predeceased by his daughter Heather DesRochers and his parents Arthur E. Gay and Marguerite Winn Gay.
