George H. Van Parys, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua, NH on October 10, 2017 of complications arising from acute pancreatitis. He is survived by his sisters Lani Frick and Jhaki Smith, his wife Joan, his ex-wife Eileen and their son George III, and his extended family of Joanna and Paul Gallant. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elaine.
George was born on October 6, 1961 in Philadelphia, PA. While growing up he worked with his parents at Van Parys Studio of Art and China Repairing.
He attended multiple higher education institutions (LaSalle College, Temple University, Spring Garden College, Thomas Edison College) from 1977 through 1983, earning Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electrical Engineering, and Industrial Engineering as well as doctorates in Automation and Robotics. George relentlessly pursued knowledge throughout his life, and was always willing to share his knowledge with others.
George worked in the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Engineering and Food industries for over 35 years, accumulating 30 drug and medical device patents and working closely with the US FDA on various regulatory guidelines. His work took him to 18 countries and hundreds of plants and facilities around the globe.
George had a number of interests. He raised several Great Danes as pets, and participated in the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League (MAGDRL). George formed the Tuna Point Lighthouse Association to restore the Tuna Point Lighthouse in Puerto Rico. He also founded BoatFix, Inc., which supplied nautical parts across the United States and Europe. He maintained a number of blogs, ranging from food critic to automotive repair to animal care, including his BoatersEd site, where he hosted weekly forums. George was a fan of science-fiction and military history movies, loved to cook, and enjoyed Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and French onion soup.
George spent his life protecting and taking care of others, and always put others’ needs ahead of his own, sometimes at great personal cost. His treasured his integrity and his intellect, and had an unwavering sense of duty.
George was a good person with a caring heart who will be missed by all who knew him.
A private remembrance gathering will be held to celebrate George’s life.
